We have recently stripped and cleaned the instruments for a series 2 Land Rover, the internal meters were in good condition but the glass was cracked and stained, and the outer casings had surface rust.

Dismantling can be a delicate job in itself, and having the correct taps and dies is important, here we are cleaning the extended threads before trying to remove the nuts.

The three segment fuel gauge & ammeter cluster was stripped and the individual instruments lightly cleaned and tested, all threads were run down and all connections polished, as there is some details on this the cleaned metal surface was lightly lacquered to prevent further rusting without loosing the detail, though the stripped parts could be powder coated (at extra cost)

New glasses were cut and and fitted with repainted retaining rings and new seals.

The speedometer case was re painted white inside to improve the back lighting.

This type of work can be carried out for around £50 (noVAT) for the pair including new glass and seals provided the internals and scales are not damaged.
